New to Bonita Park!

We installed a door slot for rent payments and minor correspondence. Only checks or money orders are accepted. Please pay to the order of the: Harlingen Housing Authority, sign and add your apartment number on the check or money order, make sure your name and apartment number are visible. A receipt will be sent to you. We would like to ensure that all residents stay safe and protect themselves from COVID-19.

APPLICATION FEES, DEPOSITS AND ELIGIBILTY REQUIRMENTS

  • The Harlingen Housing Authority does not have an application fee when applying for Housing.
  • Deposits are $200.00 per apartment; Elderly and Disabled deposits are $100.00.

Applications are available online.  Each applicant must complete the application and submit required documentation at time of appointment.

Eligibility is determined by the Admissions Department and is based on:

  • Annual Gross income based on the most recent income limits established by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Rents are based on 30% of the family’s income minus eligible deductions if applicable.
  • S. citizenship or eligible Immigration status is verified. At least one family member must be a U.S. Citizen or have eligible immigration status.
  • Family / Household Composition: an applicant may be a single person, an elderly, a person with disability, or a person who has a family.

The following is the maximum allowable income per household, by number of occupants as per the 2020 Income Guidelines (updated annually).

The Brownsville-Harlingen, TX MSA contains the following areas: Cameron County, TX;
* The FY 2014 Consolidated Appropriations Act changed the definition of extremely low-income to be the greater of 30/50ths {60 percent) of the Section 8 very low-income limit or the poverty guideline as established by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS}. provided that this amount is not greater than the Section 8 50% very low-Income limit. Consequently, the extremely low Income limits may equal the very low (50%) income limits.
